Baby Groot Cookies! "Guardians of the Galaxy"
CUTE Baby Groot Gingerbread men
After seeing the movie "Guardians of the Galaxy" I needed to have more of Baby Groot in my life.
A friend showed me this link 'How to make Baby Groot cupcakes'
In love with this idea, I immediately had to make some of my own.
Using a Gingerbread cookie recipe.
I used black gel icing for the eyes to make them more shiny.
Instead of frosting the roots on the body I drew root designs using a spoon.
TIP: be sure to make your cookies thicker rather than thinner.
That way they will hold up in the cupcake better without breaking.
My Batman Cupcakes in honor of the 'Dark Night' movie
Cut out a bat symbol on a card and use it as a template.
Use color mist. Lightly place the template over the cupcake and spray the mist over it.
Hold still till the mist settles.
And there you have a ghost like Bat symbol.
TIP:
Make sure your icing is dry to prevent the template from sticking to your cupcake :)
Also place paper towels down for a misting area. The mist will get everywhere.
Mist each cupcake separately and away from the other cupcakes. Mist will travel around to nearby areas.
Harry Potter Cupcakes
After much trial and error. I came up with a design that can be replicated easily. That's the video above.
The Sorting Hats below are very hard to get right the first time. I made them over and over to get a few that looked descent. They are hard and labor intense. But I have created the above video for a much faster and simpler way to make them. Thanks again for all your interest. Please in joy.
Sorting Hat made of Caramel candy
Droobles (box of Caramel),
Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans (Jelly Bellies),
Licorice Wands (black licorice candy),
All labels were specially created and designed myself.
Dexter Blood slides
Candy Blood Slides. I got the idea from Forkable http://forkableblog.com/?p=908 TIP: Make molds
Use Parchment paper and fold grooves in one inch rows. This will be your mold. If at all possible make a full 1x3 inch mold of slides. Because cutting them is really difficult.
TIP: You can use a wet knife to gently saw the candy.
Be sure to firmly yet gently hold the candy in place while cutting. Too much pressure can cause it to shatter. Run the blade under hot water. Then gently let just the weight of the blade fall. This takes time. Be sure to stay along the same groove as you saw evenly as you can across the candy.
Edges of the slides may be jagged. Wet the edges a little and you can smooth them out.
TIP: Don't over cook the sugar because it will make yellow slides.

Here is my How to video:

Icing:
White icing or cream cheese icing
Add a drop of green food dye and mix
Continue to add dye until nice and green.
Coating Cake:
Apply your first crumb coat of green icing. Refrigerate up to 30 min or until the coat is firm
Repeat this two more times equaling 3 coatings of icing.
Apply our final coating of icing as evenly as possible to have a 1/4 inch thickness
Refrigerate your iced cake again

Cut:
With the cake COLD. Cut off the edges of the cake to make sharp corners
NOTE: Clean your blade after each cut.

Using a knife and a ruler. Measure out and cut 2 inch Column. Pull column from the cake.
Cut Column into 2" squares.
Separate each square and refrigerate. Always keep your cake cold.
NOTE: Don't slice the cake into squares a once. Each square must be cut and separated one at a time to insure shape.

Download and print Pixel template. Cut out the black area.

Print and cut out a pixel template on a card
Tip: Use tin foil to keep the card template from getting too soaked in dye.
Hold your pixel template over one square cake and lightly spray a mist on top using green 'color mist'
When the mist settles. turn your template 90 degrees and spray a light mist again.
This will give your pixels two shades.
NOTE: Keeping cake cold will make sure the frosting is stiff and won't stick to the stencil.
